rust

Ahh yeah! :p

Been waiting for the letter from Mercedes a month. Today I got it.

They give me four new doors in goodwill. At no cost at all...

I had some tiny tiny rustdots under the rubber in top of the doorframe.

so I have no problems with this at all.

Is it someone else from other parts of da world who have experienced the same problem??

Sure do.
I had all four doors replaced on my 1999 E220-CDI Wagon last october.
This is a production flaw that is covered by MB's 30 year rust warranty. I imported the car from germany to Norway myself, and was a bit nervous on how the local dealer would react when I came to see them. turned out I had nothing to worry about. The head mechanic came outside with me to inspect the car. They applied to MB to change the doors under warranty, and after two days they called me back and said I could bring the car in in four weeks to have the doors replaced.

Didn't cost me a penny. My car had a scratch in one door, and a dent in anotner, and I got rid of them for free

I don't know how the warranty is in the US, but in Europe MB have a warranty programme called "Mobilo Life" valid for all person vehicles manufactured after Oct.30. 1998. This includes 30 yrs. warranty agaist rust (from inside out) and a number of other things.
I even had a free rental car for the five days my car was in the shop. GREAT service I think..

I have a 97 E320 with the same exact problem. I wonder if MBUSA would do anything? I think it is more prevalant in the rear doors for whatever reason. I would assume most people never look under their seals. Any suggestions on how to approach this issue?

If I was you I would take the car to a dealer and have them look at it. Ask if they have a programme for correction of the problem.
You may also tell them that it is a known problem from europe and that MB in europe takes the cost of fixing it.

(On cars made after Oct. 30 98 that is)

Angry Dang

I was washing mine today, and lo and behold,,a small rust bubble in the crease under the pass side front door molding below the mirror, and I guess it happens all over the world.
Sounds like MB should do the right thing.
