Solution For The Transmission Problem! I Sloved It!!!

You heard right I have ordered the 5spd tranny from a 1996 C280 with all parts needed for conversion. All parts from europe. Parts are as follows

1. 5spd non-auto tranny rated for 320HP
2. Pedals (clutch and brake)
3. Propeller shafts (drive shafts)
4. All fluid lines
5. Flywheel
6. New Clutch
7. All nuts and bolts.

No more tranny problems for me. I paid $1150 for the tranny and all parts. Shipping was another $600 arm and a leg for shipping. And $240 for new clutch w/ shipping. It will take 3 weeks to arrive. The labor is goning to be $600 for all. This is going to be an easy conversion.
If any of you are intrested let me know. I can get all parts needed for you. This is the answer to all of your tranny problems. This conversion works for all C280 and C36 cars that I know of. In europe most C280s are 5spd and some C36s all share the same tranny.
If you look at your brake resivior you can see a spout on the side of it that is closed off that is for the slave cylinder in the clutch pedal assy. And look behind the brake booster you can see black plugs were the lines go you car is all ready for the conversion, so dont let a mechanic tell you its a hard job to do its not about 10 hours of labor its in there service books. The labor for the tranny, clutch and shafts is 6 hours remove and install and the pedal assy. is 4 hours.

cool, i am curious...is there a tcu for the automatic? if so, did u simply just remove it? the 97 had a different engine management...was it drivebywire or not?

An ME control unit will need to be programmed for the lack of the transmission computer and electronic selector lever. This tranny likely will not hold the V8 models.... Too much torque.

Ooohh....I also want to see this. I'll agree with everyone when they say "keep me posted" I want a manual in my 202 badly. Let me know how you handle the electronics on this one.

I would like to ask , how you solved the flywheel problem.
I too am having built a 190 with AMG C36 engine & manual Getrag from a 320 CE-24V.
We are using a dual mass flywheel , and although we can start the engine , and have a good tickover, we still cannot rev the engine.
We think that this is because the magnet on the flywheel is not in the correct position.

Do you have an exact position for the magnet, or is it possible to direct me to where I can find the information.

I am from London, England , and a 4000+ poster on the excellent mercedes190.co.uk site.

However, as the only C36 engined 190 in the uk is mine, there is not a whole lot of info hereabouts.

Can you guys help a Brit?

I also own an original 2.5-16V which is my trackday car.

Many thanks,

Jeremy

What year engine management and flywheel are you using? There are two different flywheels used on the l6 motors. pre '97 and '97 and later are different. 60-2 teeth on the later and 3 magnets on the earlier.

I will have the flywheel info for you later today.

We are using an ECU from a '94 320-24V

We binned the loom from the original engine as we didn't get the D.A.S. with it. and started again, Knowing that we did not need most of it anyway, and used one from a 320-24V

In all this excitement about AMG C36 engined 190's with manual gearboxes being unique, I've just remembered that they are not quite.......................

Brabus made some 190 3.6S lightweight cars with manual gearboxes.

Are there any in the US???
