C55 vs S4 vs M3 vs Subaru Sti
Well I'm afraid I had to put away the magazines & do some real testing.A buddy of mine who has an E36 M3 (euro spec 321bhp) modified got a C55 a few months back. I didn't even know until I met up with him recently.
Anyway, I have a buddy with an S4 & a modd'd Sti as well. We all decided to do some testing. Don't worry, just like my video against the black C55, I have all these on video as well. Getting it rendered as we speak.
So the standing starts are as follows:
1st - Sti
2nd - M3
3rd - C55
4th -S4
We ran up to about 120mph. I was running the Sti (quite modified) down after 100mph but he just pipped me every time. Anyway, you win some, you lose some.
Of the 8 runs we had I beat the C55 8 times. The gap off the lline is about a length & I extend it in 2nd gear. at about 70mph the gapp stabilised at around 2 lengths. Then it stays like that all the way to 120mph where we shut down.
The driver is a very good one & this C55 seems to be stronger than the black one I raced on the video. The S4 brought up the rear on every race & faded badly after 80mph.
Rolling runs:
1st - M3
2nd - C55
3rd - Sti
4th - S4
We did rolling in 2nd gear at around 25mph. The Sti is strong on boost & pulls ahead. But without the standing start advantage I pass at around 60mph.
Even if the C55 reacted 1st & pulled I would pull a length in 2nd gear. Every time. Then the gap would stabilise at around 1 length all the way.
The C55 vs Sti was very close. It depended on who reacted 1st. If they went together the C55 would pass just before 120mph.
S4 was a non-performer & couldn't compete. Still a lovely car with a great soundtrack. Just kept getting further & further away.
I must emphasise that the Sti was not stock & is very quick.

Cool pics M&M! Thanks for sharing!
How many miles were on the C55? I'm wondering if you think the times would be closer if the C55 was broken in more? Either way, looked like you all had fun! Anyone of your friends have an Evo VIII? Would be interested to see where it would come in with the others.

Funny thing is I do have a frend with an Evo VIII. But its stock at the moment, so isn't that quick. We don't get the Japanese spec here.
The C55 had 11000km's on the odo. The Sti has some turbo mods & is running high boost. VERY quick off the line. Can be de-moralising when he jumps me a good length or 2 off the line.

Cars and boats!
sweeeeet... the same night I taped that race b/w me and the 500hp EvoVIII, I ran an STi as well who was boosting to kingdom come... this STi did manage to jump me nice on 1 of our 2 races but Id reel him in hard and get him by 1-2 cars by the 1/4 miles end. Also, from the way I've seen my buddy Neal's C55 run, it shouldnt have any problem handling modded STis!!

Yeah the STi is far from stock but the C55 reels it in quite quickly at higher speeds. The Sti has short gearing, bad aerodynamics & 4WD drivetrain loss. But BOY do they come off the line!

BTW, very nice STi.. My cousin is an STi freak, he wants to buy one but unfortunatly can't afford it.. Insurance is a killer.

I'd like to hear anything at all from "these" C55 "owners" --how come you are here with BMW and these 'buddies" of yours with C55's are nevr heard from?.
I read this post in the different thread about you and find it more reliable than anything you post here:

This guy is a waste of time...he used to do the same thing on the Audiworld S4 forum:
i.e., he would come in, post a data point, and argue a position until someone came along and posted evidence which proved his original point was wrong...at which point he'd change the argument, the same as he's doing here.
Look at the GT2 vs. GT3 case: I post data showing superior braking and lighter weight alone could account for the differences in track times, and as he always does when cornered, he refuses to address the points where he was *clearly* shown to be wrong (the braking and test data for both cars), and waves aside the others (77Kg weight difference is "nothing"--which is why race car development sweats each and every ounce, why there are weight penalties imposed on cars with horsepower advantages, etc...because physics doesn't work in racing anymore!!), then finally changes the subject.
He isn't searching for anything other than an argument. Typical Internet troll with nothing better to do....

Belmondo get a life man. I have posted videos & pics. The guy with the black C55 is just an acquantance, but this guy with the silver C55 is a buddy. Anyway, Dracco will be there on Sunday, so then he can confirm what he sees.
So here's a video of us "non-friends" messing around:

i'm curious as to how much advantage the awd got in the wet conditions compared to the rwd...or were ur tests done a different day from the vid?
must say the b6 s4 is a little disappointing compared to what the b5 s4 did in terms of improvements mb and bmw made on the c-amg and m3 respectively..
at least u had fun..

I hope the road where you conducted the runs was not nearly as wet as the track vid of you guys playing around! I know my C55 can spin the wheels like crazy if the road is the slightest bit damp (all that torque). My M3 doesn't have nearly as much trouble as it doesn't have anywhere as much torque.

And you would never hear his "buddy" come up to the board and post. Neither would you see him post on Bimmerforums or E46fanatics.

Hey Frank, the C55 & I filled up at the same fuel station with 98RON before we left. But anyway, I don't want to argue about that on a Merc forum anymore. I have the video's & timeslips so I don't need to prove anything to anyone. My buddy with the C55 doesn't rely on the internet much but I'll try to get him online.

I need to try my Gtech in both cars to compare what they can do.

M&M, have you read this month's Car & Driver?
It might prove enlightening...in it, the C55 gets 4.7 sec 0-60 and 13.3 @ 108 1/4 mile
And oh, what did Car & Driver get in the last M3 they tested, a six-speed manual in their May 2004 article? Oh, yes...a 4.8 second 0-60, and a 13.6 @ 105...hmmm.
Btw, is this article why you didn't you show up at the SA meet?
