I'm currently having my Kleemann headers thermal barrier coated by Swain tech. On Swains webpage they advertise a heat emitting coating for intercoolers, air cooled heads, and brake calipers. Its supposed to pull heat out of the metal. You may want to talk with them.

I would think it would be a heat absorbing coating that we would need .... something to help heat from the hot air be absorbed throught the intercooler metal and into the water ....... does such a coating exist ?

Agree w/ suicidal4life - but the question of "which coating" depends on how specific they're being. A lot of people confuse the front-mount heat exchanger for the car's "intercooler." The HE could probably benefit from swain tech's (www.swaintech.com) BBE coating - I've been thinking that if I order code3smith's new HE, I may send it off to them for the BBE coating prior to install.

However, if someone's referring to the IC that sits in the V of the engine (I'd guess this is the part LET is referring to), you may actually want a thermal barrier coating to prevent engine heat from prematurely affecting the IC. You really just want to keep the charge air cool, not absorb heat from the engine... right?

This is all purely speculation on my part though, anyone who knows more about this stuff care to weigh in?

The thermal coating is being tested on my car now. The IC is stuffed between the two hottest spots on the car and the thermal barrier helps. The IC will still get up to the same temps as before, it just takes much longer to do so. It also cools much faster than before.

Keep in mind that the hot air rushing through the IC isn't a big deal. The issue is that the IC is mounted to the SC and placed on top of the heads. It has no means of cooling itself other than the water that is flowing through it. Combine a separate IC tank, IC phenolic spacer with a thermally coated IC and you are on your way to a much cooler intake system.

This product is still under development and needs a bit more tweaking. I know they are waiting on the IC Phenloic spacer and they are still researching thermal coatings to use.

I do like the swaintech coating for the IC and I will pass this info along to the big man at LET. I also never thought about a heat coating for the HE...good idea guys.

Sounds promising Jerry, its starting to get hot here in brissy .... most days over 30, and it'll start getting into the 40s in a month or so ........ any extra things to keep the beast running consistantly will be great

Hey off topic, on the way home from work 2 days ago, I saw a black RS4 being followed by a 360 Modena, then on the other side of the road at the same time, a black m6 drove past with a 996 turbo 2 cars behind it ..... was pretty crazy to see a million bucks worth of cars in 50 meters of road ......
