Audio 10 CD

I see a lot of people putting in European in-dash CD players. I've also heard they sound better than the cassette used in the US. Does anyone know the part number and if I give it to the dealer can they order it when I order my car. I really like the C230, but have two gripes. 1. The car does "lean like a pig stuck in the mud." I pan to order AMG sway bars with the car. Second, I much prefer an in-dash CD player. I'd like to get an MB unit if possible, but I'm willing to put in an aftermarket head unit if possible.

i dont think you can order the car with the audio 10. im almost sure of it. you can buy it off ebay which is where i got mine, autoclass.net or MB parts dept as spc order. i was fortunate enough to find mine on the us ebay site, some have had to go to ebay.de inorder to find it. mine did come from germany and took about 3 1/2 weeks to arrive. its a very easy install, there are very good detailed instructions posted in a thread by session which i plan on using to install my audio10 and digital climate control. my C230 gets to my dealership tomorrow and i was going to have them install the audio10 and digital climate control while they were installing the door sills and mirrors, at first they told me they wouldnt because it wasnt a us spec part for the audio10 and some run around about the climate control not working with the C230 because it wasnt compatible. i know it will work, ive seen it work, i have a part # that does work on the C230, so whatever. then they told me they would but said it would cost $100 for labor for both parts. once you see the insructions its not that difficult of a decision as to do it yourself or pay $100. as for the sway bars you may be able to order them at the same time, but i dont think they will be installed either as it isnt an option for the US spec cars. that again i think you will have to order and have installed.

Thanks for the info. I can install these items myself if necessary. I thought I was done with suspensions when my son sold his Civic.

Another question! Does MB use the radio to control anything but the sound of music? I know Honda integrates there alarm with the stereo and routes the interior lighting wiring through the stereo wiring harness. You completely loose the alarm and you have to splice the dome lights to get them to work.

its not an issue with the audio10. its an MB spec radio for european models. all lighting matches the interior, dims and brightens with the controls, coded to the alarm, and steering wheel controls work. its plug and play. the thing is is am stations are 9khz apart vs. 10khz apart that the US am station use. therefore only some am stations will work. i dont listen to am anyhow so no loss for me. plus audio10 has RDS which is always a cool feature.

Thanks for the help CitronC230K_03. The installation link is great and autoclass the units. It is a little pricey, but worth it if the amps are better.

no problem! i bought my audio10 off of ebay for $284 total. that included the audio10 (obviously), shipping and insurance. it took 3 1/2 weeks but came in perfect condition w/ an instruction manual in english. i thought i got a great deal. there are some horror stories out there. but if you do your homework and look for the good sellers youll have a much better chance of getting a great deal. if you just wanna buy it and not worry then autoclass is definately the way to go. good luck!!!

agreed about communication as mine took about 2 months and the communication was bad (the seller gave me bad feedback and I gave him bad feedback...long story). Anyway, you DO lose some features such as if u ordered the phone integrated option you cant punch in the phone# using the audio 30 key pad anymore (audio 10 doesnt have this). the phone option is VERY expensive and most ppl. shy away from it so doesnt really matter.

that is for sure! ive been using ebay for 3 years now and ive been fortunate enough not to have a problem. but taking your time is the key. these forums have helped tremendously for me to find parts and save money not only in searching for them but installation savings as well. well ill save when i finally have my car to install the stuff on.

Thanks all again. I don't plan on buying an MB phone and I don't listen to AM radio, so the Audo 10 sounds like the right option.

An Audio 10 CD may not have as much as the cassette in features, however it is a better quality radio!

The good and bad of Audio 10

Good: Sound, Sound, Sound, Single Disk CD, and Sound.

Bad: I don't get all the features of my MB v60 phone (keypad, Caller ID display on radio, mute button for v60), and no fast forward only next track.

By the way I am about to put mine up for sale on e-Bay. It works and looks great. I reinstalled the stock stereo to integrate with my phone better. (And I just ordered an iPod :p ) I am going to try to hardwire an AUX line to the tape system to run the iPod.

If you are interested in my Audio 10 send me a message. I will be putting it on eBay soon. I have the original box and manuals. I will gladly send pics to any who are interested. Cost is only $349 plus shipping.

Thanks!

-Eric

BTW the Audio 10 does still work well with the phone. It mutes the CD\Radio and just says Phone.

I agree that my stock cassette unit doesn't sound so hot.

The sound does seem to be better from the 6-CD changer.

Perhaps it's just the AM/FM tuner that is sub-par?

I hope so. That is why I am going to hard wire my iPod to the actual line inputs for the tape deck to get clear sound.

Ouch!

The last pricing I received was EURO$ 370 + shipping. Brand new from an MB dealer from Germany. Ok it had the German manual. I think MBenzNL(Steve) quoted me something like US$ ~230 for a used one with a manual including shipping.
