Just so we are all on the same page, so to speak, I just ordered the "clear" one from Express Parts, not the "euro" ones I think you are calling "pure rice." There are no "frosted" ones, so far as I can tell. Can you confirm or provide the proper URL. Thanks.

Now you're talking about bulbs. I was talking about lenses. Do I need new bulbs too?

If you look at benzondubz pics of the install..the chrome molding that goes around the bumper just above the clear lense..does anyone know where to get that or do I need to go to the dealer...someone at the supermarket ran a cart into the side and broke the bumper lense..thats what caused me to purchase the white ones..but the chrome trim has now started to spider web and the chrome is coming off of the piece..it almost look like its plastic with a chrome coating..thanks for the help

Is this the correct bulb? There are about 100 bulbs w/ #194 on the superlumination.com site. I believe this one is 194 (Super White) Silver Vision for $2.99. None of them says "frosted."

I wonder if my dealer wouldn't have these bulbs in stock?

Why do they call them Euro ones. Over here we dont have lights in that location on our bumpers. I always thought it was another one of those stupid Federal requirements you all have to put up with over there.

Ya, I noticed from your photo that it was missing on your car. I thought it was do to the mods you did. Do you mean that no Ss have those little "running lights" on the front bumper??

I bought the U.S. clear covers from Express Parts on e-bay at benznodubs' link - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-06...QQcmdZViewItem - they arrived in 5 days with standard shipping, fit perfectly, and look great. The Euros seem to have a hole in the lens for mounting a bulb; the U.S. version is a solid cover.

The standard Mercedes (European) bulb is a W5W; the U.S. replacement is a 194 bulb (which also has many other manufacturers' designations).

I ordered a set of Phillips Silver Vision amber/silver coated 194 bulbs - superlumination.com and autolumination.com seem to be the same company, ordered through them. Definitely the best price I found. The bulb differs from the one shown by Jayhawk and no-wur-e - it has amber glass under the silver coating (see below). See also http://superlumination.com/194.htm and be sure to scroll down.

Also ordered a set of Polarg G51 Visual Amber bulbs from eAutoWorks at http://www.eautoworks.com/html/ORD-1-1-1-6138.cfm - much pricier, but I wanted to see how each looked.

Both brands illuminate amber, but show silver when off. Silver Vision is on the left, and Polarg is on the right in the illustration below. Sorry I couldn't get a better pic of the Polarg.

Neither bulb set is here yet, but will update.

I really like the looks of the clear side markers on a silver car (thanks, koreanpers) - but need to make sure they illuminate amber for DOT and state law requirements.

Skylaw, I never followed-through w/ the clear bulbs. Just kept the OEMs and the look is fine w/ me. They do show somewhat amber when on, but clear and cool when not lit. I didn't even think of state laws possibly requiring the amber lamps, so I guess I lucked out by just putting the lenses on w/ the old lamps! Please post some pics.

Here's one of mine w/ the clear lenses (no night pics w/ bulb illuminated):

The promised pics - clear side marker lenses

Here are the pics I promised jayhawk.

The first is the clear OE bulb with the clear lens; it does not illuminate amber, does not meet DOT requirements, and could violate state law.

The second is the Phillips Silver Vision amber/silver coated bulb ($2.99 each) - it gives a very nice night time amber illumination, but in partial daylight (shown in the third picture) it left the front part of the lens amber but the back part much lighter.

The fourth picture is the $21/pr. Polarg G51 Visual Amber, which is a bit brighter than the Silver Vision, and shows amber on the whole lens in partial light.

All of the bulbs gave a very nice appearance when not illuminated - absolutely no "dreaded egg yolk" effect.

Despite the cost, I'm using the Polarg bulbs - they just look a bit better at dusk.

The last picture is simply my car in front of our temporary digs in Arlington - it was filthy (lots of driving in rain recently, no time to clean it up) - so I just used some Michelin wheel cleaner to get the extremely heavy buildup of brake dust off. One advantage of "just another silver Mercedes" - they don't tend to show dirt. The Michelin brake dust protectant I had used over a month ago let the brake dust lift right off.

Hey, neat! When they light up, you can replace them with a pair of dead OE bulbs. They won't look bad either.

My son just got a black '01 Lexus GS300 and he wants to get clear or frosted side marker lenses too, but I cannot find a good link for them. Our old links above are no longer functional and I've Googled the hell out of it w/ no luck. Does anyone have a good source for them?

194 Amber LED Bulb

Has anyone used any of the LED bulbs from superillumination?
I want it to match the blinkers on the side mirrors.

I am updating my posts here at the request of a member.

The "Clear" side markers in my prior posts became cloudy after several years of use. I replaced them with a truly clear set; the outer lens is absolutely transparent, and one can see the hole for the bulb when the bulb is not in place. Some ebay sellers have decent prices for them - under $30. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEPO-CHROME-...fa1341&vxp=mtr - the prices through Amazon/Stealth Auto were very high, around $75 -
Amazon Amazon

I still use the Polarg G51 silvered bulbs that illuminate amber that I bought in 2007. They look good when off, no "egg yolk" effect - and are DOT compliant (yellow) when illuminated. I suspect the Phillips Silver Visions or just about any silvered yellow bulb of the proper size (194 in the U.S.) would do just as well with the clear lens. The pattern you can see in the marker is the reflector itself - the lens is completely clear.

Please pardon the smudges on the bumper and leaves on the garage floor. Lots of rain lately, and our seasons are all screwed up - trees are losing leaves (they are very confused - a late Fall and a very early Spring), and it is VERY windy.

Note: It has been several years since I installed the side markers and shopped for bulbs. I am not tracking who sells what - so if the sources above don't have what you need, please don't PM me for additional sources. One of us would have to search the web for that info, and I'd rather it be you!
