I swithched a car order to the new AMG in S version. How come Sales Manager at Mercedes doesn't know if it's a 62 or 65?? I'm not disagreeing with you Kev....just why do Merc dealer people in USA always last to know??

In reality I believe Daimler-Chrysler does not make the decision of what cars are exported to US. The cars imported into the US are ordered by the front office of MBUSA and not the front office of D-C. |

I posted this earlier and am interested in anyones feedback.
Unless Mercedes changes its AMG strategy, I don't see the V12 versions being exported into the US by MB. AMG has two lines, the "AMG Series" which are the standard production cars we see via the MB websites and dealers. These models go up to the V8 55's. Then there are the "AMG Specials", which are low volume production special edition or custom exclusive editions; these include the V12 models. There is nothing new about the V12 AMG's as they have been around for many years, though mostly as SL's. Does anybody know details or have contacts at MBUSA or AMG? I personally don't listen to dealers as they usually know too little too late. No pun intended ![]() Wolfman |

Wolfman, it is too early to tell if the V12 AMG's will make stateside. Be patient.
If one really wants one and their pockets are deep enough they can still buy those AMG Specials from some independant importer or buying direct from AMG, have the car converted and shipped to the US. |

I partially agree with Wolfman... AMG has produced a limited run of SL73s and S63 AMGs, these are probably also going to be limited edition models. But I wouldn't speak so soon just yet.

The SL 73 isn't being built any more due to emission regulations. Ronald

Ronald, i keep asking stupid questions, BUT, upon special request, would AMG take their famous 7.3 V12 and place it in a strengthened SL AMg, and then add a supercharger, making it truly a V12 Kompressor, with 700-800HP?
Is it all possible for a price? Ps, check your PM

I.e., That's were the A 32 V6 Kompressor or the CLK GTR were built in the name of / for AMG. Don't forget that any AMG car not only has to pass German safety regulations, but also has to go through the whole Mercedes-Benz test program for every model (which is one of the biggest in the Automobile industry). So, it would be a lot of testing for just one car and therefore ridiculously expensive. However, there have been some interesting individual cars in the last couple of years from AMG like the G 63 or the E 55 V8 Kompressor (but a few years ago in a W 210!). But in your case, the problem wouldn't be building a 7.3l V12 Kompressor (which woudl probably have 850+ bhp). You would have to find a gearbox and axles that could withstand the torque. It is my personal (!) opinion that the S/CL/SL 65 models aren't available yet because there is no transmission available on the market to withstand the torque of the engine in Mercedes-Benz long-term reliability tests (and is small enough to fit into theses cars). I understand, thanks fo ryour help, even with a manual gearbox, you will melt the clutch in a day!
Still with that A32 Kompressor, I couldn't help but wonder, what kind of car an SL would be with V12 Kompressor and 850BHp+, Scary as hell!!!!, If not more!!!!! |
