I'm going to run mine into the ground as it's

practically worthless anyway .....

If anything major goes wrong, which doubtless it will, I'll just sell it for scrap or whatever I can get for it.

IMHO the ML is not a real MB - far to much US content.

Come to that is there any such MB vehicle these days as there was some years ago before the bean counters took over ?

They should just add another couple of legs to the 3 pointed start and be done with it.

I plan on keeping mine until it dies completely!
I have 40K miles on it now...I've only put on ~7K miles in the one year I've owned it, so I'm thinking this baby better last me a real long time. What do you think this truck can go...100K, 125K, 150K, maybe even 200K miles?? Maybe not...but I'm hoping!!
Driving 7 to 8K miles a year should be too bad for it....I'll be pissed if it dies under 100K miles!!!

I plan to keep it for 10 years.
I still have a '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limed., purchased in Nov 92.

I expect the ML500 to do much better than my Jeep ... so far the ML hasn’t disappointed me.

Mine's just been in for the power steering recall ....

they replaced the clamp and while they were at it changed the RHS cat as it had a cracked weld.

Just noticed from the paper work they changed to window switches again (they'd only been done about 10,000 miles back) as they were intermittent.

They also replaced to sound deadening pads on the doors as they were loose.

Nothing too major (and I'm being generous here) has really gone wrong with my ML just a continual trickle of annoyances. A couple of which have left my wife stranded....

I'd like to keep the ML longer after it's out of warranty - but not sure if I can be doing with its bi-monthly trips to the shop....

No major repairs yet--it's been very reliable after the first year teething problems. I'll proabably keep it another 1 1/2 - 2 years. Depreciation is leveling off.

Cool ML Mileage

My 1998 ML320 so far has 125,000 miles on it, as of last week. Up until now there has only been one large mechanical problem (involving the transmission I believe), which was fixed under warranty. There are currently several smaller issues which I don't find too pressing. All things considered, it is doing well for 125,000 miles, at least in my opinion. I feel that it will be good for at least another 125,000, which is good because I sure can't trade it in for much at all

I did ask the dealer last time I was in for service how well MLs were holding up after 100,000 miles. He couldn't give me a good answer because I guess most are not quite there yet, so they really don't have a good idea. Anyone have some really serious miles on one of these??

my friend has the ML 320 CDI and BMW X5 3.0d...

He's also looking to sell his wifes ML. The detail finishing of the car isn't nearly as good as the BMW he says...

performance also can't keep up with the X5, but that isn't the priority with this guy. He wants a solid, reliably SUV...

so no ML for him anymore, at least not when the ML doesn't have a better detail finishing like the X5 he says.

absolutely not! maintenance would be a killer considereding the costs and frequency of breakdowns.

my ml will be gone once the lease is up (would be sooner if i could unload it without paying penalty for early lease termination).

both the vehicle and dealer have been entirely substandard.

to the poster that has had "nothing major" go wrong but some of which have left his wife stranded: *my* wife would consider anything going wrong with her vehicle which left her stranded to be *extremely* MAJOR (as would i). guess you are easy to please and willing to pay huge amounts of money to get it...

I'll just wait 1 year after the release of the new ML. If my personal dislikes on my 03 ML are still there. Adios MB ...well there's always the sedans

hmm, the engineers of MB should better take a look at this thread... the look sare ok to me (but it's time for a new model) but the mechanics/electronics were not their best work apparently (Off course they can always hire me for a lousy yearly wage of approx. 150.000 EUR ... )

History

Toureg or Porsche Pepper. NEVER AGAIN an MB. Warranty is now up and I am test driving new vehicles next week. I have ZERO confidence in the vehicle to continue to run or my dealer's ability to repair it when it breaks. The irony in the situation was that when I purchased my ML I had every intention of keeping it for an extended period of time. I don't like buying new cars, too much of a hassel. I wanted good, solid, transportation for my wife. A Mercedes Benz was the obvious choice right? Could not have been more wrong.
No offense to those that have ML's that are trouble free. I'm just jelous.
